About the Bursary Provider – Gold One:
Gold One Group Limited is a mining group with gold operations and gold prospects across Southern Africa. The company’s flagship gold mine is Gold One Modder East Operation, located in Springs within the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality, approximately 30 kilometers from Johannesburg. The Modder East gold mine, commissioned in 2009, is unique among South African gold mines due to its shallow depth, ranging between 300 to 500 meters below the surface.
About the Gold One Bursary Program – Fields Covered:
Gold One Modder East Operations is offering bursaries for the 2025-2026 academic year to students from the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality. The bursaries will be awarded for studies in the following fields:
- Finance
- Geological and Earth Sciences
- Mechanical Engineering
- Metallurgical Science
- Mining Engineering
- Social Science
More About the Gold One Bursary Program – Expenses Covered:
The bursary will cover the following expenses for full-time students:
- Tuition fees
- Examination fees
- Prescribed books
- University-administered accommodation
The bursary will not cover the following expenses, which will be the students’ responsibility:
- Private accommodation
- Laptops
- Data
- Short courses
- Meals
- Transport
- Monthly stipends or living expenses
Eligibility Requirements for the Gold One Bursary:
Applicants must meet the following minimum entry criteria before applying. Failure to satisfy all the requirements will result in the application not being considered:
- South African citizenship
- Residence within the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality’s designated municipal wards
- Enrollment in or registration for a qualification in one of the specified fields in 2025-2026
- Enrollment in or registration at a recognized and accredited tertiary institution in South Africa
- Clear criminal record
- Preference given to students residing within mine-hosting communities, including Springs, Benoni, Brakpan, Nigel, and townships of these towns
How to Apply for the Gold One Bursary:
Applications must be submitted online via the Gold One Bursary Application for 2025-2026. Applicants are required to create an account before logging in to apply. When prompted to indicate how they heard about the Gold One bursary, applicants should enter “Uni24.co.za.”
Please note that internal applicants, including employees of Gold One or their direct dependents, must obtain an application form from T & A.
Applicants must submit clear copies of the following supporting documentation with their application. Failure to provide these documents may lead to disqualification:
- ID document (certified copy)
- Proof of tertiary registration (certified copy)
- Formal quotations for all study-related expenses (certified copy)
- Proof of parents’ or guardians’ household income (latest payslips if employed, affidavit if unemployed, proof of pension or grant if applicable) (certified copies)
- Proof of residence (certified copy)
Closing Date for the Gold One Bursary:
The application deadline for the Gold One Bursary is extended until 3 December. Applications submitted after this date will not be accepted, so be sure to apply before the closing date to ensure consideration.
