About Ikusasa Student Financial Aid Programme (ISFAP):

The Ikusasa Student Financial Aid Programme (ISFAP) was established to provide financial aid and support to poor and middle-class South African students, ensuring they have equal opportunities for higher education in fields of high demand (OHDs). ISFAP collaborates with the South African government and various private sector stakeholders to reduce higher education dropout rates, enhance graduate employment prospects, and contribute to the country’s skills development.

ISFAP Bursary Funding 2025-2026:

ISFAP offers bursaries for the academic year in various fields of study at select universities. These fields of study include Engineering, Accounting, Medicine, Actuarial Science, and more. The participating universities are:

  • Central University of Technology
  • Nelson Mandela University
  • University of Venda
  • Stellenbosch University
  • University of the Witwatersrand
  • University of Pretoria
  • Walter Sisulu University
  • University of Cape Town
  • Tshwane University of Technology
  • University of KwaZulu-Natal
  • University of Johannesburg

The bursaries provided by ISFAP cover tuition fees, accommodation, meals, study materials, and a cash allowance. Additionally, students receive life skills training, social support, medical support, academic support (including development programs, tutorials, and extended programs), mentoring during their first year, and academic performance tracking through an online platform.

ISFAP Bursary Funding Requirements and Eligibility:

Before applying for ISFAP bursaries, applicants must meet the following requirements:

  • Must be a citizen of South Africa.
  • Must have completed Matric (Grade 12).
  • Must have a good academic record.
  • Must have been accepted to study at one of the participating tertiary institutes listed above.
  • Must have been accepted to study towards one of the qualifying fields mentioned above (only for first-year undergraduate studies).
  • Must be starting their first degree in 2022.
  • The applicant’s family household income should not exceed R600,000 per year.

How To Apply and Application Details:

Interested applicants must apply online through the ISFAP Bursary Funding 2025-2026 application portal. After passing the pre-application stage, applicants will receive an email requesting them to submit supporting documentation. Ensure that all required documents are submitted, as failure to comply may result in disqualification. The required documents include:

  • Certified copy of an ID document.
  • Certified copy of your matric certificate or Matric latest results.
  • Proof of registration at one of the participating institutions for 2022 (on tertiary letterhead).
  • Proof of household income (latest payslips if employed, affidavit if unemployed, proof of any grants or pension if applicable).
  • Confirmation that you are not in receipt of any other funding.

Closing Date:

The deadline for submitting applications is October 31.
