The bursary covers full tuition fees, book fees, and accommodation. Recipients will also have the opportunity to participate in paid vacation work in the Northern Cape as part of the bursary’s requirements. The duration of the bursary contract will depend on the student’s current year of study, and successful graduates may have the opportunity to join Kumba Iron Ore’s graduate program.
Eligibility Requirements for the Kumba Iron Ore Bursary:
To be eligible for the Kumba Iron Ore Bursary, applicants must meet the following minimum criteria:
- Be studying or intend to study toward an undergraduate qualification in one of the specified fields.
- Be entering the 1st, 2nd, or 3rd year of study in 2024-2025.
- Be studying or provisionally accepted at a recognized and accredited South African university.
- Have a strong academic record.
- Be willing and able to complete vacation work in the Northern Cape during university holidays.
- Have a valid Code B Driver’s License or be able to obtain it during the bursary period.
- Be willing to gain operational experience in the mining industry during vacation work periods.
- Preference will be given to candidates from local mining area communities in the Northern Cape and those who originate from the Northern Cape. Differently abled candidates will also receive preference.
