ABOUT THE OVERSTRAND MUNICIPALITY
Overstrand Municipality is situated in the Western Cape province of South Africa, nestled along the Atlantic coast between Cape Town and Cape Agulhas. It falls under the Overberg District Municipality and encompasses various residential communities, including Hangklip/Kleinmond, Gansbaai, Stanford, and Hermanus. ABOUT THE OVERSTRAND MUNICIPALITY BURSARY PROGRAMME – FIELDS COVERED
The Overstrand Municipality, in collaboration with Provincial Treasury, is pleased to announce its Bursary Programme for the 2025-2026 academic year. This initiative is open to students residing within the Overstrand Municipal area who require financial support for their tertiary education.
Bursaries are available for students pursuing studies in the following fields (both undergraduate and postgraduate levels):
- Accounting
- Economics
- Finance
- Infrastructure
- Internal Audit
- Risk Management
- Supply Chain Management
Two bursaries will be awarded to candidates with the lowest combined monthly income, each covering one academic year.
ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS FOR THE OVERSTRAND MUNICIPALITY
Before applying for the Overstrand Municipality Bursary, applicants must meet the following minimum criteria. Please note that failure to meet these requirements may result in disqualification:
- South African citizenship
- Residency within the Overstrand Municipal area
- Aged between 18 and 25 years old
- Completion of Matric (or equivalent qualification)
- Registration for an undergraduate or postgraduate degree in one of the specified fields for the 2025-2026 academic year
- Enrollment at a recognized and accredited South African tertiary institution
- Strong academic record
- Demonstrated financial need and a lack of financial resources to fund studies
- Competency, self-motivation, and a commitment to community upliftment and change
- Encouragement for students from previously disadvantaged backgrounds and students with disabilities to apply
HOW TO APPLY FOR THE OVERSTRAND MUNICIPALITY BURSARY
Follow these steps to apply for the Overstrand Municipality Bursary:
- Download and complete the Oudtshoorn Municipality Bursary Application Form (PDF).
- Submit clear copies of the following supporting documents along with your completed application form. Ensure that all required documents are included, as missing items may result in disqualification:
- Full comprehensive Curriculum Vitae (CV)
- Covering letter
- ID document (certified copy, not older than three months)
- Matric certificate (certified copy)
- Full academic record, including the most recent exam results/transcripts (certified copy)
- Undergraduate qualifications certificate, if already completed (certified copy)
- Proof of registration at a tertiary institution (on the institution’s letterhead)
- Proof of residence (municipal account)
- Proof of parents/guardians’ household income (latest payslips if employed, affidavit if unemployed, proof of pension or grant if applicable)
- Proof of disability, if applicable (letter from a medical doctor confirming permanent disability)
- Submit your application and supporting documents using one of the following methods:
- Email: kvdmerwe@overstrand.gov.za (In the email subject line, write “Bursary Application.” Ensure that applications and documents do not exceed 4MB in size).
- Post: Overstrand Municipality PO Box 20 Hermanus 7200 (Place your application in a sealed envelope marked “Bursary Application.” Address it to the Senior Manager, Human Resources).
CLOSING DATE FOR THE OVERSTRAND MUNICIPALITY BURSARY
The closing date for applications is 12 November, at 15:00. Late submissions will not be accepted, so it’s essential to apply before the closing date to ensure consideration.
