ABOUT SAFCOL (South African Forestry Company Limited)
SAFCOL, or the South African Forestry Company Limited, is actively involved in forestry industry operations across multiple provinces in South Africa, including KwaZulu-Natal, Mpumalanga, and Limpopo, as well as in the Manica and Sofala provinces in Mozambique. As one of the country’s largest state-owned companies, SAFCOL is tasked with the sustainable management of forests and other assets within the SAFCOL Group. The company’s operations span various aspects of the forestry sector, encompassing timber harvesting, timber processing, and related activities.
SAFCOL BURSARY PROGRAMME
SAFCOL is offering bursaries to financially needy and academically deserving students for the 2025-2026 academic year. The bursaries support undergraduate and postgraduate studies across a wide range of fields related to forestry and management. These fields include forestry itself, various engineering disciplines, environmental management, genetics, horticulture, wood science/wood technology, and several management and support qualifications such as business management, human resource management, and risk management, among others.
BURSARY COVERAGE, SERVICE CONTRACT, AND SELECTION
The SAFCOL Bursary covers a comprehensive range of expenses, including registration fees, tuition fees, textbooks, accommodation, meals, and a stipend for each semester. Upon graduation, bursary recipients are required to work for SAFCOL for a period equivalent to the duration of the bursary funding received.
ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS
Applicants must meet the following minimum criteria to be considered for the SAFCOL Bursary:
- Be a South African citizen.
- Be currently in Matric or have completed Matric.
- Intend to study full-time toward a qualification in one of the eligible fields for the 2025-2026 academic year.
- Be registered at a recognized and accredited South African tertiary institution.
- Meet the entry requirements of the selected institution.
Preference will be given to previously disadvantaged students, female students, students with disabilities, and youth residing in communities alongside SAFCOL plantations and communities with which SAFCOL has signed social compacts.
HOW TO APPLY FOR THE SAFCOL BURSARY
Follow these steps to apply for the SAFCOL Bursary:
- Download and complete the SAFCOL Bursary Application Form for 2025-2026.
- In the field asking how you heard about the SAFCOL Bursary, enter “Uni24.co.za.”
- Submit clear copies of the required supporting documents along with your completed application form:
- ID document (certified copy)
- Matric certificate or Matric recent results (certified copy)
- Most recent academic record/transcripts if currently studying (on the institution’s letterhead) (certified copy)
- Proof of registration or acceptance at a tertiary institution (on the institution’s letterhead)

CLOSING DATE
The closing date for applications for the SAFCOL Bursary is extended to 14 October. Ensure that you submit your application before this date, as late submissions will not be accepted.
