About TCTA:

The Trans-Caledon Tunnel Authority (TCTA) is a state-owned entity responsible for bulk water supply development. Located in Centurion, TCTA’s mission is to be a market leader in the supply of sustainable water and to facilitate water security through the planning, financing, and implementation of raw water infrastructure in their region. The authority was established as a purpose vehicle to execute the Lesotho Highlands Water Project and provides various services related to project design, management, treasury management, knowledge management, debt management, and more.

Some of TCTA’s flagship projects include the Lesotho Highlands Water Project, Metsi Bophelo Borehole Project, Vaal River Eastern Subsystem, Olifants River Water Resources Development Project, Berg Water Project in Franschhoek, Komati Water Scheme Augmentation Project, Mooi-Mgeni Transfer Scheme, Mokolo Dam, and Acid Mine Drainage.

About the TCTA Bursary Program:

TCTA is offering bursaries for the 2025-2026 academic year to academically deserving students from previously disadvantaged backgrounds. The bursaries are available for undergraduate degree qualifications in the following fields:

  1. Economics / Financial Management / Treasury & Investment / Commercial (BCom) – 2 bursaries will be awarded.
  2. Civil Engineering / Electrical Engineering (Controls & Instrumentation) / Mechanical Engineering / Chemical Engineering (BSc or BEng) – 4 bursaries will be awarded.
  3. Environmental Science / Environmental Management / Environmental Law (BSc or BTech) – 4 bursaries will be awarded.

Bursary Coverage:

The TCTA Bursary covers the following expenses:

  • Registration fees
  • Tuition fees
  • Prescribed books
  • Learning tools
  • Accommodation
  • Meals
  • A monthly allowance for living expenses

Eligibility Requirements:

To be eligible for the TCTA Bursary, applicants must meet the following minimum entry criteria:

  • South African citizenship
  • Age under 35 years old
  • Completion of Matric with a tertiary institution entrance
  • Minimum result of 60% for English, Science, and Mathematics in Matric
  • Full-time enrollment in one of the specified fields
  • Registration and study at a recognized and accredited tertiary institution in South Africa
  • Minimum result of 65% for all major subjects if currently studying
  • From a previously disadvantaged background
  • Total household income of less than R350,000 per annum (before tax)
  • Not receiving any other bursary or sponsorship funding
  • Currently unemployed

How to Apply:

To apply for the TCTA Bursary, follow these steps:

  1. Download and complete the TCTA Bursary Application Form 2025-2026.
  2. Submit clear copies of the following supporting documentation along with your completed application form (compulsory documents):
    • Motivational letter
    • Full academic record/transcripts (on institution’s letterhead)
    • A completed SARS Confirmation of Diagnosis of Disability (if disabled)
  3. Email your application and supporting documents to: bursaries@tcta.co.za (Subject line: “TCTA Bursary Application”).

Closing Date:

The closing date for TCTA Bursary applications is August 5. Applicants are advised to apply before the closing date to ensure consideration.
