JSE, or the Johannesburg Stock Exchange, is the 19th largest stock market exchange in the world and the largest stock exchange in South Africa. Established in 1887 during the gold rush period in South Africa, JSE is the oldest stock exchange on the African continent. It currently boasts a market capitalization of approximately $1,282 billion. JSE Empowerment Fund (JEF) Bursary 2025-2026:
The JSE Empowerment Fund (JEF) offers a bursary program aimed at providing financial assistance to deserving students pursuing their education. The program’s goal is to uplift the community and contribute to improving the South African labor market. The bursary covers multiple fields of study, and for the academic year 2025-2026, it is available for the following fields:

- Computer Science
- Information Technology
- Informatics
- Data Analytics
- Mathematics
The value of the bursary will be determined on a case-by-case basis, considering each candidate’s financial need. JSE will cover either half or the entire tuition cost, and shortlisted candidates will receive more details regarding the benefits and coverage. JSE will contact shortlisted candidates within 30 days of the closing date. If you do not receive any communication, consider your application unsuccessful.
Eligibility Criteria for the JSE Empowerment Fund:
To be considered for the JSE Empowerment Fund Bursary 2025-2026, applicants must meet specific eligibility criteria. Failure to meet any of these criteria will result in disqualification, so it is essential to ensure you fulfill these requirements before applying to avoid rejection. The eligibility criteria are as follows:
- Must be a South African citizen.
- Must have completed Matriculation.
- Must be pursuing a degree in one of the specified fields of study.
- Must be in the second, third, or fourth year of undergraduate study or at the Postgraduate (Honours) level.
- Must be studying full-time (not part-time).
- For undergraduate students: A minimum overall average of 60% is required.
- For postgraduate students: A minimum overall average of 60% is required.
- Total household income should not exceed R 350,000 per annum.
While meeting these criteria is essential, preference will be given to candidates from designated groups, individuals from previously disadvantaged backgrounds, those with financial need, students from local tertiary institutions in Gauteng, students with disabilities, and female students. The final selection will be at the discretion of JSE’s internal committee.

If you meet the eligibility criteria, you can proceed with the application process. It is a straightforward process that should take no more than an hour to complete. However, it is crucial to follow the proper instructions and submit accurate and complete forms, as incomplete or incorrect submissions will not be considered. Here are the steps to apply for the JSE Empowerment Fund (JEF) Bursary 2025-2026:
- Visit the JSE Career Page and complete the online application. This portal is used by JSE to manage all applicants. If you are a first-time user, sign up and create an account. If you have an existing account, sign in.ORAlternatively, you can apply using the Pnet portal by clicking on the “Apply Now” button.

- Matric results or Matric certificate (certified copies).
