BANKSETA provides bursaries for students through partnerships with public universities. These bursaries cover tuition, textbooks, accommodation (both on and off-campus), and other related costs such as meal allowances and tutorial fees. The aim is to support students in fields that are critical to the banking industry.

Fields of Study Covered

The bursaries are awarded to students pursuing degrees in the following fields, which are identified as scarce and critical skills in the banking industry:

  • Actuarial Science (Accounting)
  • Bachelor of Science (IT)
  • Bachelor of Commerce (IT)
  • Bachelor of Commerce (Finance, Economics, Financial Markets, or Financial Modelling streams)
  • Bachelor of Commerce (Accounting)

Application and Selection Process

  • University Role: BANKSETA does not recruit learners directly. Instead, each university selects students based on criteria set by both the university and BANKSETA.
  • Funding Coverage: The bursary covers full tuition fees, meal allowances, book fees, accommodation costs, and other necessary expenses such as tutorial costs.
  • University Selection Criteria: Each university has its criteria for selecting bursary recipients, adhering to BANKSETA’s minimum requirements.

Skills for the Future Project

Funding Window

BANKSETA has opened the funding window for the Skills for the Future project. This project is aimed at public universities and universities of technology and is focused on supporting economically disadvantaged Grade 12 scholars in rural communities of Limpopo and Eastern Cape.

Application Process

  • Submission: Applications should be submitted to Nobuzwe M at Nobuzwem@bankseta.org.za and Busisiwe N at Busisiwen@bankseta.org.za.
  • Deadline: Applications must be submitted before the closing date. Late applications will not be considered.
  • Format: All application forms and documents should be in PDF format.

Programme Requirements

  • Eligibility: Only public universities or universities of technology can apply.
  • Programmes Must Include:
    • Digital Literacy Programme incorporating ICT skills
    • Work Readiness Programme
    • Career Counselling Programme for economically disadvantaged Grade 12 scholars in Limpopo and Eastern Cape.

Evaluation Criteria

  • Ability to Deliver: 30%
  • Content of Programme and Implementation Strategy: 30%
  • Learner Support including Learning Aids and Exit Strategy: 40%
