GCRA Bursary Application and Online Registration in South Africa
The Bursary Fund is an initiative of the Governments of the Western Cape and Northern Province to support students from disadvantaged backgrounds who wish to further their studies at university level. It offers bursaries towards the cost of tuition, accommodation and related expenses for students who have scored at least 50% in their Grade 12 final exams and are enrolled in a full-time degree programme leading to a first or upper second class honours bachelor’s degree or equivalent qualification at a South African university. Eligible students can receive up to 80% of their total educational costs, subject to a maximum amount per student. This means that eligible applicants can receive up to R80 000 towards their tuition fees, R20 000 per academic year for each dependent child enrolled at university, and R20 000 for each other dependant family member (elderly parent, disabled parent or sibling) attending university as well.

Bursary Fund requirements

What happens when you apply?
Once you submit your application to the Bursary Fund, the Fund’s Adjudication Department will take at least two weeks to process the application and send you an acknowledgement. If your application passes the requirements, you will receive an official letter from the Fund informing you of the amount you have been awarded.

The Bursary Fund is only available to South African citizens who are enrolled in a full-time degree programme leading to a first or upper second class honours bachelor’s degree or equivalent qualification at a South African university. The Bursary Fund is only available to students who are pursuing a Bachelor’s degree or higher qualification.
